Fran Hauser is an early stage investor, long-time media executive and a vocal advocate for women across the globe. Best known for her role building PEOPLE.com – one of the biggest media brands online – Hauser made the leap to early stage investing in 2014, funding and advising consumer-focused companies such as HelloGiggles, Levo, Mogul, The Wing and Gem&Bolt. Thirteen of the fifteen companies in Hauser's portfolio are founded by women, highlighting her broader commitment to increasing the representation of female founders and investors.
Hauser previously spent 15 years in the digital media space, most recently as the President of Digital at Time Inc. In that role, she focused on the company's style and entertainment brands, including PEOPLE – the most visited website in the publishing industry – Entertainment Weekly and InStyle. Under Hauser's leadership, these brands' websites reached over 20 million unique visitors and generated over one billion monthly page views. Hauser also led the mobile and tablet strategy for these brands, including the launch of over 20 consumer products. In addition to product development, Hauser oversaw acquisitions (including StyleFeeder and Celebrity Baby Blog) and large-scale distribution partnerships with major technology platforms.
Hauser also served as Vice President of AOL's Programming Group and was named Vice President and General Manager of Moviefone in 1999 after playing an integral role in the $525 million dollar sale of Moviefone to AOL. Prior to Moviefone, Hauser held positions at Coca-Cola Enterprises, Ernst & Young and Price Waterhouse, where she began her career.
Hauser speaks frequently about topics such as career building, digital media and investing in and by women. She also writes for publications such as Inc., Forbes, Mogul and Bedford Magazine, and appears on CNBC's Power Pitch. She recently received the Fairy Godmother Award from Girl Be Heard and the W Award from the YWCA of the City of New York, both of which honor change makers who advocate for women and girls around the world. In 2014, Forty Over 40 selected Hauser as one of 40 Women to Watch Over 40, a distinction that honors women who are reinventing, disrupting and making an impact. That same year, she was also named one of the Six Most Powerful Women in New York City's Tech Scene by Refinery29 and was honored as a Global Champion of Women on International Women's Day. In 2011, Hauser was honored by the Girl Scouts Council of Greater New York for strong leadership and was also named to Folio magazine’s annual “Folio: 40," a list honoring magazine and media industry influencers. She was recognized in 2009 as one of Advertising Age’s “Women to Watch”, and was inducted into Media Industry Newsletter’s (MIN) Digital Hall of Fame in 2008.
A passionate advocate of women around the globe, Hauser is an advisory board member of 92Y Women inPower, Rent the Runway's Project Entrepreneur, WomenOne and TIA Girl Club; on the board of directors of GlobalGiving; and a mentor to hundreds of young women. A summa cum laude graduate of Pace University, Hauser lives in Bedford, New York with her husband and two darling boys
